One year ago, OpenAI released ChatGPT to the public, marking the availability of generative AI technology to the general public. However, while generative AI can make certain tasks more efficient, it doesn't actually save time in the long run. The cognitive load of tasks remains unchanged, and the availability of more time often leads to more tasks and busyness. Generative AI has also highlighted the unimportance of much of our work, as it can easily generate HR guidelines and business emails. Additionally, the uncanny valley effect is still present, with AI-generated content being distinguishable from human-created content. Overall, generative AI is being used as an assistive tool rather than a replacement in various industries.
