The Dynamics 365 Business Central 2024 Wave 1 release (version 24) includes important hidden changes on the server runtime. The server now runs on .NET 8, which is the newest and fastest version of .NET available. This version offers performance improvements in memory allocation, garbage collection, data operations, and exception handling. Additionally, the server management shell has been moved to PowerShell 7. The Windows PowerShell cmdlets for managing Business Central server on-premise now require PowerShell 7. Microsoft is also providing a backward compatibility bridge with PowerShell 5, but it will be deprecated in future releases. It is recommended to start using PowerShell 7.4 as soon as possible. These changes may also affect using BCContainerHelper with Docker, so upgrading to the latest version is recommended.
