Power BI Update - September 2026
The September 2026 Power BI update introduces several new features and improvements. A notable addition is the new Power Query Editor, followed by live visual sharing capabilities in Outlook Web. Further enhancements include the approximate distinct count for both Import and Direct Lake, and full-text search in semantic models using TEXTCONTAINS and TEXTSIMILARITY. String indexing and a new report ribbon in the web have also been introduced. Improvements in on-object interaction and remote Power BI authoring via an MCP server offer enhanced functionality. The update also highlights more control in Power BI Home, the Power BI Agentic Authoring Plugin, and Power BI Projects (PBIP). Semantic model creation and editing via Direct Query, enhanced Copilot access, and report consumption with Fabric IQ are now available. Additional upgrades include design ribbon options, visible pane headers during scroll, slider color options, and visual calculations for small multiples. The presentation concludes with a community member spotlight.
