Azure Blob Storage now supports immutable storage, which allows users to store business-critical data in a WORM (Write Once, Read Many) state. This means that data cannot be modified or deleted for a user-specified interval, protecting it from overwrites and deletes. Immutable storage for Azure Blob Storage supports two types of immutability policies: time-based retention policies and legal hold policies. Both policies can be configured at the container level or at the single blob level. Immutable storage meets the relevant storage requirements of CFTC Rule 1.31(c)-(d), FINRA Rule 4511, and SEC Rule 17a-4(f), making it ideal for financial institutions. The feature is free and can be configured directly from the Azure Portal.
