The article discusses the creation and features of the Dataverse ERD Visualizer, a tool designed to simplify understanding complex Dataverse schemas in Dynamics 365 projects by providing an interactive, draggable, and zoomable entity relationship diagram directly within your Dataverse environment. Unlike existing methods that require external tools and complicated API setups, this open-source tool allows users to visualize schemas without external connections or API keys. It complements Microsoft's Plan Designer, which aids in creating new solutions, while the ERD Visualizer helps explore and understand existing setups. The tool prioritizes accessibility, performance, and comprehensive relationship visualization for enterprise-level projects with hundreds of tables. It also supports exporting diagrams in various formats for documentation and presentations. The article emphasizes leveraging AI and MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers to further explore, document, and create tooling in Dataverse environments, enhancing developer productivity and understanding through AI-assisted exploration. This project emerged from a personal journey of learning React, focusing on building intuitive and efficient tools outside of one's comfort zone.
