How Do You Track Everything a System Administrator Does in Dynamics 365 for Finance & Operations? You Don’t.
Tracking everything a system administrator does in Dynamics 365 for Finance & Operations is not feasible. Other ERP systems have an internal audit trail that tracks every transaction, but D365FO does not have this capability. Change tracking in D365FO is done at the table level, not the user level. Telemetry data can help determine which forms a user is navigating to, but it cannot show changes a user performs. To address this, reduce the number of users assigned the SysAdmin role, have a review/sign off process for role assignment, take a risk-based approach to tracking, and use a dedicated change tracking tool like Fastpath Change Tracking. It's important to communicate with auditors and explain why this request is not valid in D365FO.
