The Cloud Migration tool for Dynamics 365 Business Central requires an on-premises instance with SQL Server 2016 or later and a compatibility level of 130 or higher. The tool works at the SQL level and can migrate data even if it exceeds the storage space. A single Self-Hosted Runtime instance can be used to migrate multiple databases to different tenants. Data compression is applied to reduce the size of the migrated database. Change tracking is automatically enabled and does not need to be enabled on every table. Tenant Media can be migrated, but larger files may have issues. To move a large on-premises SQL database to Azure SQL, it is recommended to upload the bacpac file to Azure Blob Storage and restore it to a new Azure SQL database. Starting from Business Central version 26, all schemas marked as ObsoleteState=Removed will be cleaned up, so data upgrade or cloud migration to version 26 or higher must be done via an intermediate step to version 25.
